The Year of the Shed

While commenting on a blog post just minutes ago, the idea for one came into being.    In my head, I am 'secretly' referring to 2012 as 'my year' and also as 'the year of the shed'.

No, not this type of shed but

that one.  Oh yeah. The infamous New Year's Resolution that I always make while eating something or another.

But I am armed with some reinforcements

I sort of poo-pooed walking as not really being such a strong weight loss aid, since we've all been pretty much doing it since we were two, but obviously I needed to be more enlightened

Being more honest with myself and owning my mistakes

Even just getting up off the couch and stepping away from the computer!

Preparing healthy foods by only buying healthy foods and snacks (easier said than done, but note to self:  grow up!)

Be my own motivational coach

I will post updates here and there, as well as share any delicious healthy or light recipes I will be trying.  I hope to actually do a photo reveal of myself eventually.

    This is a GREAT post!! I love the images, but also, the text as well. Everything you said is sooo true. I would like to post a photo of myself on my blog, too; but everytime I see one of me, I nix that idea. I've had sleep apnea for about seven years now, and that has aided in my weight gain and also inhibited my losing any, it seems.

    I applaud your taking the bulls by the horn on this issue. My husband and I both need to lose weight, as we're not getting any younger. I'll encourage you if you'll encourage me. :)

  3. I am in it with you girlfriend! I am trying to avoid sugar and flour (um, that would be cookies...) and fill myself up with healthy fruits and veggies. I made a huge pot of "detox" soup and am drinking detox tea like it is my job. Good luck to us both!

  7. Great Post! I burst out laughing with the scale comment! I got on mine just after Christmas and some weird code came up. I called the manufacturer and they never heard of it!!! LOL! Now if that's not a sign I don't know what is!!! Good thing is,they are sending me a new one.

    Good Post! I have a treadmill about 2 feet away and all I have to do is plug it in. I am going to start walking on it for sure. I have arthritis and I should be walking any way. Pat

  10. Barbara, I've lost 34 pounds since mid-October by eating every three hours. I attended nutrition seminars and then a visit to a dietitian and learned a whole bunch of new things...then I downloaded a website on my phone, my tablet and my computer called It helps me track protein/carbs/calories. It's free and I love it. I haven't started to exercise yet. I will probably wait until March to do that. Anyway, if you want a compadre in weight loss, email me.

  14. Well, I started out prepared to tell you that was the cutest little shed I'd seen in a long time.

    Then, I read about "THE SHED". I'm with ya there. Getting healthier and shedding those extras are my perpetual promise to myself every year.

    This year, I have decided to find a comfortable (healthy) weight to maintain and maintain it.

    Generally, once I get my groove, I go below what I can maintain. And then, I gain it back and then some.It's like a yearly tradition.

    So I'll be cheering you on NOT from the sidelines but from the walking track right along side of you.

  15. Great ideas my friend! I don't make resolutions...they never last in my world. :-) I do have a goal of eating healthier and walking more. Walking tones the entire body and helps me mentally also. Of course, once I get these knees in shape I will be able to do the extended walking.

    We can join forces and share recipes if you'd like!

  17. I can so relate! Last year I lost 30 pounds on Medifast, but as soon as I started eating regular food again, the weight came back on in 6 months. So I need to learn portion control and to just eat better with regular food. Yes, and WALK. It is not a "resolution", but something I need to do for my health. Good luck to you and tell us about your "successes".

  22. Good for you! I don't do resolutions, but I have decided to try to take better care of myself this year. I started with all those wonderful skin products I bought and yesterday I started cutting out some of the junk I've added to my pretty healthy eating. I'd like to lose a few pounds, but mostly I want to feel better. Until October I was walking an hour a day and while I didn't lose weight, it did make my legs stronger and thinner. That is my next thing to get back into. It is easy to get in the habit of lazy...and I'm there!

  23. Good luck with the shedding...I totally believe in walking and have been doing it faithfully for 30 years now. Love your little shed too and the boob & brains joke..and the leotard joke, cute stuff! ;D
