It's "Official"

Early spring, folks!  This is according to Staten Island's own, Charles G. Hogg, aka Staten Island Chuck.

NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, SI Zoo's Peter Laline & Chuck

Notice our Mayor is wearing protective gloves?  That is because Chuck bit Hizzoner's finger a couple of years ago.

Chuck is a rather ornery looking fellow.

I can't wait to do a yard clean up and get some pansies planted.

With a face like this, I wouldn't disagree with him!

  2. Ha! Punxsutawney Phil here in PA said 6 more weeks of winter. Guess we'll have to just wait and see which critter got it right!

  3. Well, Punky Phil says 6 more weeks of winter... this year in the Mid-Atlantic the big question seems to be, when is winter going to start??? Personally, I hope Chuck is right:@)

  4. Oh so many posting about the "forecasters" today! I did one too! Our Birmingham Bill said 6 more weeks of winter! But if it will be like the winter we are having now (mid 60s-70s) I'll take it!!

  6. I heard on the news this morning that you got the good news! I think we're in for more winter.... not a good thing. I don't like the cold, but I'm glad we haven't had much snow and ice.

  10. Hello Barbara:
Well, there are certainly plenty of signs about in gardens that spring may definitely be with us. But, the arctic weather we are currently experiencing would strongly suggest otherwise.

Have a happy weekend...outside if weather permits!!

  12. Dearest Barbara,
    Oh, Groundhog Day, isn't it☆☆☆
I have been busy all day today and finished "Bean-Throwing" eating "sushi roll". You know what; one of my student brought us 2rolls of them as a gift. I wished to know in advance before I buy the ready made one, haha.
Anyway, spring weather seems to be far away. Shivering Cold!!!

PS> So sorry not to have noticed the side-bar sign, and thank you very much for your understanding, my friend.

    Blessing to you, xoxo Miyako*

  14. Hi Barbara,
We've had spring-like weather all this week. Things are trying to bud and bloom here! I'll be in shock (and so will the plants) when we have some more cold weather!

  15. Six more weeks of winter... it's hard to believe with the warm weather we've been having these past few days, but we've seen ice and snow into march many times... so guess we'll trust this little guy. ":o)

  16. That little critter is a cute one, but I might be a little timid to hold it. It's getting warmer here in sunny Southern California. Have a fun weekend.

  17. Our Georgia ground hog predicted the same thing. Personally, I kind of hope he's wrong. I can't believe I'm saying this, but a LITTLE winter would be nice.

  18. Winter, it seems like it has, for the most part, not arrived here in our part of Texas!

  19. It would be wonderful to get an early Spring this year. Our winter has been mild and dry so it's hard to predict. I had to laugh when I read that Chuck bit the mayor.

  20. Hi Barbara, We haven't had winter here yet! My spring bulbs are coming up. I hope we don't have a freeze now but we probably will…….
