A Flying Peacock?

A friend sent me an email that was floating around on the 'net recently, and I was a little amazed at the photos.

I think I saw a peacock just once, and its feathers were down.  The only time I saw one with its feathers opened up fully displayed was in a magazine.

Yet here were some cool photos!

Isn't Mother Nature artistic?

I will be joining Sally for Blue Monday.

  12. Wow! They always look beautiful on the ground, but up in the air like that they're very dramatic and gorgeous! And that's the epitome of why art imitates life! :)

  13. The photos are beautiful and amazing.
Whenever I see peacocks I think of Flannery O'Connor the writer. She kept peacocks at her farm, Andalusia, in Milledgeville, GA. If anyone is ever close to Milledgeville, you should visit. The farm is open to the public now.

  14. At one time, we had a beautiful restaurant
on the edge of town....they had several large peacocks that roamed around the grounds. They just took my breath away.
These are so pretty and I had no idea they could fly.

  22. I have seen them in various parks, and they are truly one of the prettiest birds ever. Especially, when they spread their wings.

  30. Barbara,
    These are awesome pictures.

Bob's grandpa had many peacocks on his farm in Kentucky.

Yes, they are delightfully beautiful, yes, they can fly and do so all the time if their wings aren't clipped. Beyond that they have a nasty temperment if not properly socialized. They will chase the other farm animals and boy are they fast on the ground.
I never knew why Bob's grandpa kept them, they didn't say anything about eggs. His grandpa was spunky and I guess he liked spunky birds.

I was chased by roosters on my grandpa's farm but I was married before I was chaised by a peacock. Boy, was I frightened.

    They ARE absolutely beautiful creatures.

    Hugs, Ginger
