A Little Fiesta

Saturday is Cinco de Mayo, and while it is not my holiday nor am I of Mexican descent, I do enjoy a fiesta!  For me, a fiesta is all about the bright, happy colors all working together, as much as it is about tasty food and bright colored drinks.

The real leaves are from a bitter orange tree that was in my dentist's office.   She cut some branches for me and said I could try to root them in water.

Bright yellow Gerber daisies from Trader Joe's.  My little statue is actually a Native American doll, but she fills in nicely here.  The cute donkey cart  I purchased here.

The dishes and wine glasses are from the Dollar Tree.  Place mats, napkins, and napkin rings are from Bed, Bath and Beyond.  Other glasses are from Christmas Tree Shop.  Flatware is from Ross.

I plan on eating at a wonderful Mexican restaurant on Saturday, but if I was inclined to cook, I would be serving guacamole and tortilla chips, steak fajitas, shrimp tacos, rice and to wash it all down, margaritas, and fresh fruit sangria.  Dessert would be flan or coconut ice cream.

I love Gerber daisies.  Here is one that I am going to plant outside.  Yard work is getting the best of me, and I have not been in a good mood because of it.  :/  (Achy knees, achy back = grumpy gardener!)

I am "tardy for the party" but I am joining Kathleen for Let's Dish and The Tablescaper for Seasonal  Sundays.

  9. A completely festive table! I don't celebrate this holiday, though I should. I love Mexican food. Hope that those orange leaves root in water. That would be cool.

The gardening thing...oh it is so hard on the back and knees. Wish there were an easier way.

  10. I'm a grumpy gardner also. I planted 6 tomato plants in the heat of Wednesday and I thought truly I might die of heat stroke! It took all day for my cheeks to NOT BE RED!!??? I thought I was a gonner. Thank God, I'm ok!! LOL, I know what you mean. It sure does get harder every year. Love your table. I love the Derby so I hate they fall on the same week! DARM! I'll have to have Mexican next week!!

  26. Yes, achy knees and an achy back do cast a less than pleasant outlook on the prospect of gardening. Thankfully The Husband hasn't been bothered by those as I have.
It sounds as though you have a great Cinco de Mayo feast planned. I love the little donkey.

  37. Mean ol' Uncle Arthur, a.k.a. arthritis, is beating me to a pulp, too! I don't have one plant in the ground yet this year even though we've had great planting weather! Gerbera daisies are one of my favorites for adding color, and I love the way you used them here.

  38. I live in AZ and Cinco de Mayo is a big deal here. My husband loves to cook Mexican food so we had a feast. Great table! Isn't Trader Joes wonderful? I enjoy the flowers in the garden but there are a lot of times it is hard to resist the ones at TJ's.

  44. Hi Barbara,

I'm finally getting by here for a visit. Sorry I've been absent -- so much going on. Boy do I love these colors in your Cinco de Mayo table. They're soooo bright and festive. Everything coordinates beautifully. I think your little Native American lady and donkey cart are precious!

I think your menu sounds delicious. The shrimp tacos and flan sound wonderful to me. I never met a flan I didn't like. ;)

I know what you mean about the yard work. I can't believe that I used to really enjoy it (many years ago). Hope you have a great day, Barbara!
