Summer Book Reading

Shirley Temple
July 27th is National Curly Hair Day.  Have a good one to all those lucky folks with curly hair, you guys always look younger with curls.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I love cookbooks.  I think I actually love reading a cookbook more than I like to cook.  (eating, well, my cup runneth over  there).  I read a cookbook like a novel. The author is always the hero/heroine to me.
With the Internet and blogging, I have not purchased a cook book in a couple of years.  I actually paired down my collection when I downsized.  I felt this book just had my name on it.
Technically my initials which the nice staff at Susan Branch's blog placed on the package before they shipped it out.
Such a nice lady, Susan Branch.  I purchased the Heart of the Home cookbook back in the '80's.  I sent her a letter and she graciously responded.  I also have Christmas from the Heart of the Home and Vineyard Seasons.  All great.  Tried many of the recipes from all three in my younger, having-someone-to cook- for  days.  Always a big hit.
What I love the best about Susan's books are her illustrations and quotes.  Seriously, she could do a book just with quotes.
And always gracious, she signed my copy.  I am sure I will be whipping up a dish from this book within the next 58 days.
;-)
I will be joining Sally for Blue Monday.
    Curly hair day? Would that the 27th would be the only one I had to endure. =D
  9. I am so with you on the cookbooks...they are like novels to me too! I really need to start purging some, but every time I try, I can't go through with it.
    Would you believe I don't have a Susan Branch cookbook? I may need to remedy that soon!
  11. Hi Barbara!
    I bought my first Susan Branch cookbook "The Heart of the Home" at the "Bunch of Grapes" bookstore in Martha's Vineyard, where she lives many years ago. It was also autographed. I did not know who she was at the time, but I was attracted to her art work and quotes,as well as her recipes, and soon became her fan. I've since purchased many more of her books, including a recipe keeper book that I am writing up for my daughter. I just love her illustrations and her blog is so much fun to read.
    I have slightly curly hair so I will celebrate tomorrow! :)
    Thanks for your comment on my blog today --it is a subject we all should be talking about without fear or embaressment.
  14. Love your humorous approach about cooking books- I think I'm in the same boat! Food can look so attractive in the pictures! That cookbook looks so familiar. I used to get a catalog from a company with lots of goodies to buy and some of their own cookbooks. Can't think of their name right now though...but your cookbook looks like one from them!
    I'm afraid I won't be able to celebrate National Curly Hair day! Mine couldn't be straighter!
  17. Hi Barbara! Oh, I just loved Shirley Temple, well, I still do. I have most of her movies. Wasn't she the most darling little girl? I read her life story and it said her mother rolled her hair each night with rag strips. Now I cannot celebrate that day as my hair is as straight as a board. always wanted curly hair.
    But, I do like Susan Branch too. I love her sweet art work and have her calendar up now. Do you remember when she had a page with a recipe and her art work on it in a magazine? I think it was Country Living way back in the 80s.
    Be a sweetie,
    shelia ;)
  19. Hi Barbara!
    Susan Branch is one of my favorite illustrators. Her items used to be available at Hallmarks, not sure about nowadays. I also like her blog.
    As a child I watched old Shirley Temple movies every weekend. Sweet movies.
