Midsummer Day's Thoughts

Pinterest

Apologies for the slightly racy photo at the end of the post ;-)

Summer is halfway done.....some of us are happy, some of us are not.  Just a matter of seasonal taste.

Time to reap the rewards of all the hard gardening work, or to enjoy the bounty at farm stands or in the stores

When I was a child, I had such mixed feelings about the month.  It meant the first day of school was fast approaching.  But mid-month was my birthday.

Still having those mixed emotions, but for a different reason!

  1. Hi Barbara,

I love this post, and your timing is perfect. I agree that some are glad and some are not. Those heirloom tomatoes look scrumptious!! I wish we had those year round for sure, but if we did, we might not appreciate them as much.

Is that a birthday cannoli? Yummmm. I love all these images! I don't think the last one is too racy -- it's funny.

    XO,

    Denise

    P.S. Our son's birthday is August 13th. :)

  2. Ha Ha, cute post Barbara!I go back to school in a week, so I am not so happy about August. Blue moon? I'll have to check that out.

  3. Hello Barbara:
Summer is indeed disappearing at an alarmingly fast rate. Mid summer is now but a distant memory as the days draw ever shorter. We must, as you rightly urge, make the most of the summer which remains, especially all the wonderful bounty of fresh produce which tantalises us at every market stall. And, a blue moon, now that really is something!

  4. I will be staying in until Sept. 4, when I have my next doctor's appointment. So my view of August will be indoors. Not that that's a hardship when the temps are over 110 most days...

  5. Well, dear heart, since wintertime is MY time, I don't mind seeing summer almost over. I do, however, miss all the grands when they get back in school. I don't get to hang out with them as much.
August is always sooo stinkin' hot here, I will be glad to see it amble on out.:)
Now, if I lived by the sea, I would want to hang onto it forever, I'm sure. :)

  6. I have mixed feelings about August as well. I am always looking forward to the Fall (my favorite) but then I hate that the relaxed days of Summer with no school or work are ending.

  7. Barb, do I recall that we share the same birthday - August 14?

  11. Hi there, long time no see, thanks to my garden, and several acres of yard to cut on a weekly basis. I love summer, but not this 115 heat index, and drought that we are having. I can't believe that summer will soon be over. Where did it go? I have to admit that fall is my most absolute favorite time of year, and I am ready for it. I usually have more time to blog also :) See ya more often really soon.

  13. Oh, yes, my daughter told me about the new moon at the end of the month. And, I also have an August birthday.

I always look forward to fall with the beautiful colors and the cooler, crisp days. These very hot and humid days get old fast,

  14. Barbara F.,
And when did you say your Birthday was?... I will say, summer use to be my favorite time of the year. Lately, I'm leaning toward fall as well.
Cute picture. I'd like to take my birthday suite in as well.

  15. Dearest Barbara,
Oh, do you mean your birthday is August 15th? I see some of your friend is asking you(*^_^*)
When I knew that the new school year in oversea countries are September, our summer would be far more enjoyable♬♬♬ I thought there won't be so many summer homework like we don't have any during spring vacation when we wait new school year.
Oh, great pictures and I liked the way you wrote very much, "Time to reap the rewards ~~~~”
Oh, I can't figure out your current mixed feeling(^^;) Does that mean the hot summer won't help reduce your weight? (I always need the alterations for the length, haha)

Sending you lots of love and hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako*

  16. Love the great fresh fruits and veggies but my favorite part of August is that the stores are getting ready for fall! And I'd like my B-Day suit taken in too:@)

  17. Hi Barbara, I really don't like August down here in Texas! I so look forward to Fall and even Winter. I sure liked your cute cartoon!!

  18. Once in a blue moon... I just noticed a full or nearly full moon last night and we're getting another at the end. So much cloud cover in the evenings that we're missing out on seeing it tonight, but overnight rain is always very nice so I'm not whining. I've enjoyed this summer...not too many scorchers and lots of very pleasant days in July.

  22. Hi Barbara,
Where has the summer gone? Here it is already August. I always had mixed feelings toward August when I was teaching. I enjoyed to "newness" of each school year, but I hated for the freedom of summer to end. But this year I'm looking forward to Oct. and meeting you. We have our tickets to the conference!

  25. LOL the last photo is not showing up on mine. I guess I don't get to see the racy one.

I have been pondering the same things about August and am writing a post in fact. It's a different sort of month, but this year I am determined not to wish it away.

  26. I'm not a big fan of hot weather so August isn't my favorite month. Supposed to hit close to 100 degrees tomorrow. Crazy how the summer months fly by so fast.

  27. This year we planned a little vacation in August ~ Which is helping me not feel the august blues. I dread the start of school and end of summer. : (

    Happy Almost birthday!!!

  33. I love this post!! The birthday suit is great. LOL I can't believe my summer is over. I have to go back to my third graders on Tuesday! This summer has flown by. My main goal to paint my deck did not happen! I just couldn't take the 100+ temps everyday. I'll save that for fall.
    XOXOXO

  34. It feels later than mid summer to me -- it must be because the heat and humidity started so early this year. Hope you are anticipating a fun birthday very soon! :)

We are tired after our loooong drive home from Colorado -- and I have so much tio catch up on--wheee!
