Outside Finished & Looking to the Weekend

I would like to share what I bought on Saturday, staying within my budget to finish up the front flower beds.  It is a cloudy drizzling day and quite chilly.  We went from high 70's to low 50's overnight.

I bought the cabbage plant and a kale, two pumpkins and a few gourds.  It remains to be seen if the pumpkins and gourds last until Halloween.  There are a lot of kids here, and smashing pumpkins is an unfortunate Halloween tradition for as long as I can remember.

The scarecrows and small ghost are from Christmas Tree, the Pilgrim scarecrows I have several years but don't remember where I bought them, it was a local nursery, I think.

My house seems to be the target of many a football/soccer ball and my poor mum has been hit a couple of times.  That's why it has that indent.  Signs posted all over that say "No Ball Playing Allowed", but rules were made to be broken.  ;-)

My view on the left when I leave my house.  My neighbor utilizes the common area, which is not encouraged or even allowed, but she does a nice job (and doesn't read my blog).

I took a little stroll the other day when it was warm and sunny to take some photos

A little golden color but the leaves fall before they even change.

This photo is hazy but I love the sunbeams coming through (and the big kitty on the pumpkin).

I will be missing a bit from Blogland this week, as I get ready to attend the SBC.  You can click on the link on my sidebar to learn more about it.  I will be sharing my adventure when I return.

In the meantime, I will be joining Make It Pretty MondayTweak It TuesdayYou're Gonna Love It Tuesday and Home & Garden Thursday.

  1. Hi Barbara! Oh, your fallen flower beds look wonderful! I love the pretty mums and those little scarecrows are so cute! I need to get some. I know about the pumpkin smashing. I wish kids wouldn't do it but they do. I enjoyed going along on the stroll around your neighborhood and have a nice time at your conference.

  2. Very cute and fun, Barbara! I really hope nothing gets smashed! I think I might buy some kale this year (and pray the squirrels don't like it!). Great pictures of your neighborhood...our leaves have been slow to change, soon I hope!

  3. Barbara F.,
Lovely fall decor. Cabbages are so great to decorate with. Usually they die out but we had two cabbages come back.

  7. I have been on a quest to find Pilgrims for years. I'm quite jealous of yours. They're really cute. The foliage looks very pretty. Smashing pumpkins? Here, too. I dare not put a pumpkin on my front steps. Also, we have a bunch of turkeys who love to decorate with toilet paper. Ackkkk...drives me nuts every year.

  14. Awww - lovely!

I love having pumpkins around, but don't usually leave them out front either. Kids, and all that. This year though, a stray pumpkin seed in the compost that I put on my front flower garden sprouted, and I ended up with a big pumpkin plant in my front yard. It wasn't the kids that got them though - it was the deer! Just a bite. Grr. I managed to save one, anyway.

    Love all the Fall colours!
