After the Holiday

Hi everyone, hope all of you enjoyed the day with family and friends or having a romantic dinner for two with your spouse or significant other.

My Thanksgiving was a little discombobulated this year.  I was having six for dinner, then it turned into a movable feast when two of my guests had medical emergencies and just were not up to the drive.  It was easier for me to cook, pack it up and drive to them.

I made the turkey soup, stuffing, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, biscuits, pumpkin pie and apple crumb pie.  My friend's sister-in-law made the turkey, sweet potatoes, and mushrooms.  I was happy as traffic was wonderful going in to Brooklyn and coming home was even faster.

Today I am relaxing.  No photos for the post, I didn't bring my camera with me or take photos before hand.  Gave myself a break from added pressure.  (My friends' would not have been happy to have their photos taken and shared at this particular time.)

I did not start Christmas decorating or shopping.  I hate crowds and long lines.  I can't stand for too long anyway.  I'd much rather go during the week, early in the day.  Just one of the many perks of retirement.  I did start a project, tweaking my Christmas wreath, and adding an 'unusual' element to it.  If it turns out fine, you will see it!

I also want to acknowledge Linda Primmer of the blog "Life and Linda"  (aka the Fairy Blog Mother) for my new blog header and background.  She also set up new pages for recipes, features, etc. and added a search button, signature and all the fun things I have always wanted but could not do on my own.  I am so fearful that one wrong move and the blog would be lost.  And I don't know if I would start over from that point, honestly!  But here it is, and I am grateful for blogging friends with the skill and expertise that I lack to help me out.  She is a pleasure to work with and gets it done pronto!

Thanks, Linda!  I will be adding things to the new pages over the next week.

Looking forward to hearing about your great buys while shopping and decorating accomplished over the weekend!

xo

I enjoyed working on your blog. I hope you enjoy your new look! I'm with you regarding fighting the crowds. I probably already have everything I need. You are a lovely person to pack dinner up and take it to your friends that had medical issues. Your kindness, is a heart full of love.
Enjoy your week-end and thank you for your kind words. XO Linda

  2. I am glad that you had a good Thanksgiving despite your friends being ill - hope they are ok now.

Love your new blog design, it is lovely.

I like you do not like crowds and shopping when the place is heaving. Much prefer to go early morning (unfortunately since I work I have to do it on Saturdays) but better than facing weekday crowds!

    Have a good week

  3. Glad you could still get together with your friends and I'm sure they appreciated your making the trip. Love the new header! Well, the tree's 90% up, I did get a few gifts taken care of (some on-line some in stores) and am pleased to report that Walmart was very quiet at 7AM this morning. Kohl's is having an amazing on-line sale, worth checking out! Happy Weekend:@)

  6. It looks beautiful here! Your friends must have been delighted to have you change your plans and go to them. What a wonderful sounding menu! (It sounded a lot like our menu.) I still have too many pies and stuff in the fridge. Must make an effort to get some of it frozen or something. Looking forward to your wreath tweaking.

How nice of you to bring the meal to your friends. It sounds like it was delicious. I hope your friends are feeling all better real soon.
I am like you when it comes to crowds... no thanks. I'd rather stay home and be crowded by multitudes of Christmas boxes waiting to be unloaded. Ha!

  11. Love your new header and your new look; I was kind of lost when I got here. So nice you have movable feast to celebrate with your friends. I am not a true shopper, I do it when I have to so, my Christmas shopping this year is going to be quite toned down.

  12. Looking gooood, Miss B!
Glad you didn't hit traffic, but if you had, you would have had enough food to sustain you!
We packed up a lot too, it always smells so good driving there for the hour we are in the car!
No shopping for me, I will wait till the craziness eases, I don't like crowds. I like to leisurely enjoy my shopping without fighting elbows!
    Have a good Sunday!

  13. Barbara F.,
First of all I love your new look of your blog.
You are brave to drive with food. I am clumsy and an accident waiting to happen if I travel with more than one item. Happy Holidays!

  15. Hi Barbara,

Your new blog header and background look terrific!! I know you'll enjoy using your new features; it's more fun to blog when you have more versatility. Linda definitely did a great job. :)

It was so kind of you to drive your part of the meal (and it sounds like you cooked a lot of goodies) to your guests' home. I'm sorry about the medical emergencies. I hope you still enjoyed a Happy Thanksgiving day.

Thanks for your visit and comments. I agree that a real tree definitely makes more of a mess to clean up. Sometimes I get weary of that, too. But I don't think my family is ready for an artificial tree just yet; we all love the smell of a fresh tree. My parents finally started using an artificial tree a few years ago; it's just become too difficult for my dad to get a real tree into the stand. We are happy to do it for them, but they don't want to put us to the trouble. Plus, I found out that my mom just doesn't want to water and clean up after a real tree anymore.

Have a wonderful day, Barbara. I can't wait to see your wreath!

    Hugs,

    Denise at Forest Manor

  23. I'm sorry your friends weren't up to travel and glad you were able to bring Thanksgiving to them. Good thing that the traffic cooperated!

I am just like you in that I avoid crowds. I don't even venture near a store on Black Friday. I get discouraged by how much is picked over afterward. Sigh.

I like the new features on your blog. I would love to do something like that but would definitely lose my blog if I tried.
