Mikasa Surrounded with Love by Spode

I didn't do much decor for Christmas this year, but I wanted to do a tablescape to show you the beautiful Mikasa accent plates and serving pieces I won recently.  The fabulous giveaway was hosted by the beautiful Anita of the blog,  Far Above Rubies.  I think most of you already know Anita, but for those who may not, I suggest you spend some time visiting there.  You will not be disappointed, and she has the voice of an angel.  You can listen to her rendition of O Holy Night, while looking through her posts.


The pattern is Italian Countryside, Holiday Wreath and Holiday Christmas Bouquet.  I received two accent plates of each of the three patterns.  Four are edged in red, and two in green.  I placed them on my Spode Christmas Tree dinner plates.  The Spode were my mother's, a long ago Christmas gift to her from my father.

My parents wedding silverplate, First Love by 1847 Rogers Bros.  It is 65 years old.  They were married in 1947.

The centerpiece is an old fashioned fire truck, transporting a tree.  You see, December for me is a time for remembrance for my dad, he was born the 22nd and died the 26th.  This is my little tribute.  


It even came with wreath, which is magnetic

  15. Such a lovely table and how special to have the silver from your parents! I recently did a post showing the my Grandmother's wedding china. It was a setting for 12 and I still have a full setting for eight. I feel honored to have it.

    Your dad's life was all around Christmas. Do you find that comforting? It seems as if it might be. I remember reading that wonderful tribute you wrote to him and sharing the photo of Little Girl you in his arms. Sweetness! The Circle Won't Be Broken...

  23. I have been eyeing those holiday plates to go with the Italian countryside all season and trying to remember they are a "want" and not a "need". What a huge blessing for you that you WON them! I love the whole table, right on down to the ribbon candy. I hadn't even thought to use it here, and it would be perfect in my kitchen. Ribbon candy always reminds me of my grandmother. Someone else posted about anise cookies recently, and they remind me of her too. I guess Grama is on my mind this Christmas.

As a girl I loved trucks, lots of boy cousins I guess, but I was pretty hard on them in the dirt pile next door. Christmas is a time for memories. Wishing you a very Merry One!

  43. Barbara, I saw that you had won these beautiful dishes and you have set a pretty table with them. I have the regular Italian Countryside dishes that I have used every day for the past 15 years. I didn't even know that there were holiday plates to go with them! Love the truck with the tree in it. Your dad and my mom shared the same birthday!
