Today would have been my mother's 90th birthday. It always snowed on or about her birthday. Many birthday celebrations had to be postponed. My dad used to tease her that she must have upset Mother Nature. A family tale says she was actually born on the 6th of February, delivered at home with a midwife, but there was so much snow my grandfather couldn't get to the Board of Health to register the birth until the 9th.

I enjoyed a dessert last Saturday while out having a wonderful day with a friend. A favorite treat of my mother's, Happy Birthday in Heaven, Mom.
So, what are the snow totals in your neck of the woods? ;-)

ReplyDeleteThank you for mentioning the troubles with blogger as I have been having them, too. I didn't see yesterday's post so will go looking in just a moment. There's one of my favorite blogs where I can no longer leave a comment. No matter what I do there I get an error message saying there were "conflicting edits." Every time? Gheesh. A gal could get a complex. This reminds me to write to her directly and explain before she starts wondering.
ReplyDeleteWhat is that dessert? It looks so creamy and delicious. That's a fun story about your mother's birthday. I guess that I'd believe it and celebrate a little on both days. Hope that you have many pleasant memories of your mother today. Things that make you feel warm and bring a smile or even a chuckle. I'm just starting to get to THAT place.
Blogger has been very fickle lately...not sure what the deal is!! Your snow is SO pretty!! Our sum total = ZERO! It's supposed to be in the 50's today. But they're saying that *next* week we *might* see some!! Hugs to you this sweet day, as you remember your dear mama! :)
ReplyDeletePretty fresh snow :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy Saturday!
oh Barbara I had a lot of porblem in blogging too:( Happy can commernt here, this dessert look lovely, happy Saturday!
ReplyDeleteWe are in the middle of a blizzard now, Barbara! Your snow pictures are beautiful!

ReplyDeleteGood Morning Barbara,
ReplyDeleteHere I am, come on ..don't go on frustration . For sure they couldn't reach you immediately, perhaps they were busy or because they couldn't stay in front of computer all day long. Like me, one day I just only made a post but couldn't leave a comment immediately. perhaps they could visit you the days after, or even loosing the post .it's happen sometimes , I think that was a normal things
take it easy, don't worry about it.
by the way, beautiful white homestead. here we have no snow. only deeply cold.
Happy birthday to your mother.

hugs

That is alot of snow Barbara. I know you are experiencing a blizzard. Stay warm and cozy. Wonderful story about your Mother. Happy Birthday to your wonderful Mother. I'm so glad you had a lovely day with a friend. The cake looks so good! Enjoy the week-end. I haven't experienced any problems in commenting. XO Linda
ReplyDeleteHello Friend! Hope you are safely tucked in and cozy! Here in our little section of NEOhio, we only have a dusting of snow, but the temps have taken a nose-dive. So, it's a chilly weekend for us. Guess what I am working on? NOTE CARDS for my (new) Etsy shop!!! I decided to take the plunge. I'll post more details when the shop is stocked and open. Have a wonderful weekend! ~Sally
ReplyDeleteGlad it's over. Fresh fallen snow is always so pretty.Thinking of your mom today. we always had such wonderful times together! Our mom's always had fun wherever we would take them.Oh such happy memories.
ReplyDeleteBarbara, this post came to me right away - yeah!! That is quite a bit of snow and I love the story about your mother's birthday. Happy, happy birthday to her!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara, I'm not sure what is going on with our blogs but I'm having some of the same problems. I get emails from friends telling me my posts are not updating. Your snow is lovely and I'm green with envy. I would love a snowfall but here in the south we rarely see one, only a dusting. Sweet thoughts o your mom, I understand all to well how you miss her. Happy Saturday dear.

I guess Blogger was upset by the weather too :) It's quite white here also since we got about 5-6 inches of snow before it headed your way with a vengeance. What a sweet way to remember your mom ♥
ReplyDeleteBlogger has been acting up in my neck of the woods also. Thankfully, we only got 8" of snow. Love the story about your mother's birthday. Enjoy the day! xo
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara,
ReplyDeleteOur snow totals here in North Carolina are Zero inches. Yep; we had actually been hoping for one pretty snowfall here before winter is over, but as the weeks go by, I'm now getting in the mood for spring. :)
I love the story of your mother's birthday; that's so sweet. My mom's birthday is January 31st, and even though we're in the south, we've still had several winters where the weather was not good for all of us to gather together until later. Also, the Super Bowl often interrupts. Isn't that terrible? We're serious football fans in this family.
I'm glad you mentioned the Blogger issues. I've tried leaving comments for several people over the past week or so, and some of them just never, ever went through. So frustrating!!! I'm not getting so many comments on my blog, but I thought it was just me. I just figured I'm not writing about what people are interested in, or they just don't like me or don't like my blog. Such negative waves. :) I'm starting to get a complex.
I also did not get your post yesterday on my blogroll. I'm going to check it out right now.
XO,
Denise
We had 5" but the sun has been beautiful with bright blue skies all day so it's melting quickly. Also nice that it was the lighter fluffy variety! Happy Weekend:@)
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara, I was watching for you to see what you had to report on the weather. Glad you didn't get so much snow and have power. Birthdays like your passed Mom are so bittersweet. I am glad you had the day out.
ReplyDeleteDear Barbara, you are a sweet person...Happy Birthday in Heaven to your dear mother. The story about her birthday is very lovely. What a delicious dessert...I' m sorry for the problems of blogger...sometimes " Mr Blogger" is impish!!
ReplyDeleteKisses
Alessandra
I love that you still celebrate your mom's birthday! I just had a birthday and as a child I was always envious of those that had outdoor summer parties!!
ReplyDeleteI am not having blogger problems but I wasn't home all day yesterday. Hope all is well now.
XO,
Jane
Precious memories of your Mom, I still miss mine, gone 7 years. The cake looks yummy. Sorry about your snow, we didn't get any in Virginia but feeling sorry for our neighbors to the northeast with two feet. I also am having so many "no reply" commenters. Hope it gets fixed soon. Saw your link at Elaine's Sunny Simple Sunday, thanks for sharing with us.
ReplyDeletei have been having issues with blogger for a while now. have yet to get have a header photo since last year 2012. folks are missing from my feed, & i think folks are missing me too because i never see them any more? makes me sad. i hopped over thanks to Elaine at Sunny Simple Life. nice to meet you. have a great weekend. going to look around your blog more. bye. ( :
ReplyDeleteI have had problems with blogger too, hate that, oh well I am a new follower of yours and I look forward to seeing more of your blog...come on over for a visit...
ReplyDeleteBlogger has give me troubles for the past few weeks
ReplyDeleteand now I sort of feel better, it's not me!
As for the snow,, all I can say is thankfully I
don't have to deal with it anymore. The midwest
was 6 months of snow and sub zero temps all the
time then I had enough and moved to Florida.
Watching the news on Nemo this week is foregin
to me now and I'm so happy!
Sweet how you had your moms favorite foods, I do
the same sometime and offer mine to my mom.
Have a great week coming.
Sandy
Here in western pa we escaped Nemo but have a mess from other snows followed by rain / melting / more snows etc...in other words I have dogs and my backyard is a landmine of poo :(
ReplyDeleteDearest Barbara,
ReplyDeleteOh, happy birthday to your late mother. You ARE a sweet lady to commemorate her birthday♡♡♡
OMG, it sure is beautiful snow but you must have had some traffic trouble. Personally wished to have at least once a winter but it seems not this season(^^;)
SO sorry for your blogger trouble, my friend. I hope this comment reach you and things are back to normal by now♡♡♡
Sending you lots of love and hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako
Hi Barbara, Your snow photos are lovely. Hope you and others particularly those affected by Sandy are weathering the storm ok. I have not had any problems with blogger, however, I subscribe to google reader and your post from yesterday does not show up in google reader. I would not have known you posted yesterday except you said you did. I went to the bottom of this post and clicked older post so that I was able to read it.
ReplyDeleteTake care!
Hugs, Beth
We got over 20 inches, and drifts, omg! We will be stuck for days!
ReplyDeleteSo sweet to celebrate your mom's bday! I am sure she would approve! My mom would have been 99 in Dec, she died on my 50th bday.
Stay safe and warm!
Barbara, your snow looks so pretty! You know, we don't get much of it down here in SC, so we get pretty excited when we do. Our mothers were very close in age, and I think it's wonderful that you celebrate her birthday. I'm sure she's smiling down from heaven!
ReplyDeleteYour snow really is pretty Barbara. Wish we had some of it down here in the South.
ReplyDeleteYou weren't the only one having problems with blogger yesterday. It took me forever to get pictures loaded, then I had trouble resizing them. I hope we aren't going to be having long term trouble with our blogs again.
One of my childhood friends was like your mom. Her birthday was on December 27th and every year her family tried to have a party. Not sure why they insisted on that day since so many families were traveling so most kids couldn't come. However, it never failed that every single year she tried to have a party, it snowed.
One year her parents even rented the entire roller rink. Sure enough it snowed that year too, but her family was so desperate for guests they came to pick me up. I believe myself and one other girl came and everyone else there were her extended family. I felt bad for her, but she was just thrilled that one year she got to have a party, regardless of how little it was.
Despite the snow, I hope this coming week goes well for you!
I haven't seen your posts come up in my reader, either! Hope things get worked out. Yikes- you have some snow. We were supposed to have rain, but today was sunny and brisk. I'll take that any old day! Stay warm, dry, and safe, Barbara!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday in heaven to your dear mom.
ReplyDeletexo,
Lisa
Barbara,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for slways stopping by!!
Thanks goodness you didn't get 2 feet of snow like some parts were predicted to get. Ours was only 5 inches and it is supposed to be sunny and 40 today but with some freezing rain during the night. I have work tonight so that should be a fun drive!!
My mom and Dad would have been 93 this year....
Hugs,
Deb
Hi Barbara, happy Birthday to you dear Mom in heaven! I loved that you celebrated with a piece of her favorite cake (is it cheesecake?). I did get your post emailed to me yesterday, but I couldn't read it. I always click over any way to leave a comment and I didn't have a problem. Happy Sunday to you and I hope the snow will clear soon.
ReplyDeleteThe images of winter wonderland are gorgeous!! Wow, you dear mother would've been 90 and what a sweet way to remember her with a pretty vignette, tea and a yummy cake. The story about her winter birth is so cute! How long ago did your mom passed away? How old was she at the time? Lovely post. Thank you for your kind visit, I love it when you do. Have a nice Sunday.
ReplyDeleteFABBY
Hi dear Barbara... Your pics are lovely and the cheesecake looks wonderful.. We got a lot of snow but it blew in huge drifts so it is hard to say how much we got. smile..
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed week, my dear... xo
Happy birthday to your Mother in heaven. No snow here in Missouri so I am enjoying your pics. Cute story about your mom.
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara, thanks for popping by my blog for a visit! We are actually all dug out but it looks like something from Dr. Zhivago...:D it's pretty but tomorrow it is forecast to warm up and of all things, RAIN! Very confusing winter this year, lol!
ReplyDeleteStay warm my friend,
Hugs,
Beth P
Barbara F.,
ReplyDeleteHi! Hoping you can keep dug out of all that white stuff. Hope you get my comment. Your photos are good ones. We lucked out just a skimming of snow lately. Pat
Such sweet thoughts of your Mom. At least snow melts.
ReplyDeleteWonderful to have you at Seasonal Sundays.
- The Tablescaper
I don't see any problems with your blog or posting. It's usually the person's web browser that has problems- as in using Internet Explorer and never clearing cache or cookies.
ReplyDeleteThat is a sweet story about your Mom. The recipe looks so good!
I never thought about it much but you are right at this time of the year the weather is so unpredictable- you just can't be sure if you can get out and go anywhere. We've had several school closings because of it.
How sweet of a memory of your mother. Here's to wishing for spring. We ended up with 14 inches of snow. Not to bad as it could have been more. All three of my children were born in Feb. I almost didn't make it to the hospital in time with my last child due to the weather :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed seeing your snow pictures. Snow always looks so much prettier somewhere where it's not me shoveling it or cleaning it off the car.The most snow we have had here in St. Louis was the predicted snow flurries that turned into about 4 1/2 inches. That was several days ago. It melted away quickly. That ricotta cheese cake looks delicious. Sweet rememberance for your Mom's birthday. My birthday is near the end of January. The weather is very unpredictable around that time, maybe a January thaw or cold winter, or a whole lot of snow.
ReplyDeleteWe don't have snow where I live, but we do get freezing temps and lots of rain. What a sweet memory of your Mom.
ReplyDeleteI had problems last week leaving a few notes too. But this week looks like all is well again. Silly old blogger.
Have a sweet valentine week, Elizabeth
Fun story about the date of your mom's actual birth :) Just a few inches of snow here this weekend ~ much less than originally predicted. North Jersey had much more. Your photos are lovely!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about all the problems with Blogger. I haven't noticed anything yet and hope all resolves for you soon! What sweet little stories about your little mother! I feel so blessed to still have mine and she'll be 90 in June! Thanks so much for popping in to see me and I don't know if I've told you or not, but I do love your header!
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia :)
Look at all that snow.. None in NC.. maybe spring won't be far! Looks yummy
ReplyDeleteHow about five inches of RAIN and counting for the next two days!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a sweet and interesting story about your mother's birthday. Mine has been gone for 30 years. She died so young- my age now! I think I will start a tradition like yours and celebrate her birthday with cheese cake and expresso!
Maybe all the bad weather has affected blogger in your area. Hope it is resolved soon. I have never received 47comments so you are doing well.
While I really enjoy looking at snowy landscapes on photos, I'm glad to live in CA where we don't get any snow. This week we have lots of sunshine! I love CA winter!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful snowfall. I'm still holding out hope that we might have some here in South Carolina. It's wonderful to have such treasured thoughts of our loved ones and to still celebrate and remember their lives.
ReplyDeleteWe don;t have snow...a little rain early this morning but not much.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the win of a candle. They surely are good ones.
xox bj
Your header is so pretty. Did you do it yourself? I don't know how to put the banner behind my name...
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara
ReplyDeleteI hope that you enjoy many happy memories of your Mum.
Thanks for being my friend!
Leann
I'm sorry to hear about the troubles you are having with blogger. That snowfall is beautiful. Bob and I don't get much snow but my youngest daughter and her family live in Connecticut and literally had to dig their way out of the snow. I hope your week is off to a good start. Have a great day. Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet story about your mom. You certainly did get a bunch of snow. We didn't get anything...our ground is bare. And we live in Michigan, just over the Michigan border from Toledo, Ohio.
ReplyDeleteJan ♥
Oh I miss having snow. Thanks for stopping by. Good to meet you.
ReplyDeleteThe cheesecake looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteOur snow totals are terrible...in a different sort of way. We could use some more. The drought is bad here and we need the moisture.
I don't know abut the snow but that cheesecake sure looks delicious. Nice to have fond memories of your Mother. Thanks for visiting me.
ReplyDeleteSnow this winter hasn't been too bad a couple of heavy snowfalls with smaller falls in between; thank goodness for a snowblower.
