PJs and jammies

Claudia of Mockingbird Hill Cottage is hosting a party tomorrow, and the dress code is pajamas, flannel pajamas!

This is my kind of party.  I LOVE flannel pajamas and actually LIVE in pajamas more often than I probably should.  The mailman, UPS guy, FedEx lady and at least 5 neighbors have all been greeted at the door while I was wearing them, sad but true.  Most of the time I kind of look the same way even when wearing clothes, so I don't think I caused anyone serious trauma.   I do get glammed up occasionally.  ;-)

Carole Hochman

I switched to nightgowns in my teens and had not worn pj's for many years.  When my heating bill started getting out of hand, I decided to try a pair of flannel pj's, along with flannel sheets and a down comforter to help me survive the winter.  My old ranch house was drafty, and cost quite a bit to keep it "comfortable".  (This was before "hot flashes" hit me.)

Karen Neuberger

The flannel sheets made me sneeze, but the flannel pj's enveloped me with just the right amount of warmth, like a security blanket.  With the down comforter, I didn't feel like my nose was an ice cube ready to fall off my face.

My favorite pj's are Karen Neuberger .  These are also Oprah's favorites.  I have purchased several pair at a store called PJ and Jammies in Peddlers' Village in Lahaska, PA .  The sales girls actually wear pajamas while working.  That is my kind of job.  Some of the styles resemble clothing, and I have worn a top over a pair of jeans.

I also like "heavenly soft" sleepwear by Carole Hochman.  This brand is available on QVC, next show is March 25th at 1:00 PM EST.  The ones I am wearing currently are from Carole, and have been washed and in the dryer so many times I lost count over the past five + years.  Yes, over 5 years old and not worn, just a tad faded.

Soon though I will be switching over to lighter fabrics and sleep shirts and nightgowns once more.  To answer my doorbell, I'll have to have a robe or cover up nearby!

Thanks, Claudia, for hosting.

  2. I haven't worn pj's for years but I bought a pair this winter- guess I should try them out before it gets warm. Wait, what am I saying? It won't be warm til May! LOL Guess I'll get plenty of wear out of them. :-). And I wear a robe all the time- I think everyone in the neighborhood has seen me in it!

  3. LOL... I don't wear flannels but I do get caught in my PJ's more than I'd like to admit to! I love flannel sheets. Boy when those below freezing temps hit the house can get chilly! We have our thermostat set to drop at night so you definitely want a warm bed!

  6. I'd love to work in a flannel pjs store. What fun. Right now I have flannel sheets -- so cozy -- and a pink and white checked flannel nightgown as my favorite winter wear. My nightwear needs generally are whatever is on sale at Century 21. Always have something cute and reasonably priced.

  7. I can't tell you how many times I have taken the kids to school in mine. I always pray I don't get pulled over or have a flat tire!!

  10. Barbara, this is such a great idea. I definitely wear PJs. You will enjoy this story. The other morning, I was e-mailing back and forth with someone from my home town who is also a blogger . I finally admitted that I was still in my pajamas and she admitted she was, too! It was 10:00 in the morning and we thought it was so funny. I guess we aren't the only ones!

  11. Barbara,
I usually don't get out of my flannels until about 9:30 or 10 in the morning, either! I have some that are at least 10 years old and the more stretched out they are, the better!

  13. I don't like jammies at all, but I love my flannel nightgowns. I like Lanz of Salzburg.
I wonder if the QVC gal makes nightgowns?

  15. What a fun party! I love P Js, too! I wear a gown to sleep in but when I take an early bath, I put on warm PJs to lounge in. They really do feel great...and flannel is the comfiest! Sweet dreams!

  16. Cute post, Barbara. I sleep in a tee shirt, but hang around the house in sweats, all winter long. In summer I'm in shorts and tee shirt all day long and I won't say what I sleep in on those hot steamy nights. I have a nice pair of red flannel pajamas but they are too hot for me to sleep in...I sleep in a waterbed, and it's heated!
    Enjoyed your post, Barbara.
    Hugs, Beth

  17. I love hearing how other women spend more time than sleeping in their jammies. Sometimes I wonder how I can be attractive to my husband because I hate to change into clothes, especially on the weekends.

  18. Barbara, Hanging out in my is my favorite pastime, but flannel PJs make me sooooo hot I can't sleep in them. My hubby on the other hand, wears his every night b/c I keep the room very cold at night! Cute. Dianne

I've heard of the ones that Oprah recommends, but have not tried them yet. They look VERY pretty!! Thanks for showing us.

  21. Sounds like a fun party, Barbara! I can't sleep in pj's. it's nightgowns for me. I love Target's Nick and Nora brand, as they're stretchy and such cute patterns.

  22. I didn't know about the party. Yet, here I sit at 9:00 AM in my trusty favorite pair of houndstooth PJs. I need to get cracking and get dressed, but it's COLD out there this morning so I'm putzing around in the jammies.

We actually do have flannel sheets here. I get annoyed by them because this is Georgia after all, but the husband likes them so I have them on for the winter. This year, they were actually appreciated.

  23. Hi Barbara,

Don't you receive the clothing for free? Isn't that a form of compensation?

  24. Cute post. Nice to know about the QVC PJ's. I've been wondering? Love your hot flash reference. .been there. My neighbor often spends her whole day in her PJ's. I get such a kick out of her. She'll say you can come up for coffee but i'm still in my PJ's.

  25. I love my PJ's. I could also live in them all day. I can't sleep in flannel, because I get too hot. Nightgowns are so comfy.
To have a job and wear PJ's all day would be heavenly.

  26. I used to wear nightgowns when I was younger, but now I can't abide them for some reason. But PJs? Love them, as you do. Now the perfect job for me is one where you can wear pajamas - those girls at that shop in PA are sure lucky! Thank you so much for the links to sources for flannel pjs. I need to expand my horizon and try some new manufacturers.

Barbara, another thing we have in common. My daily wear is often a sweatshirt and jeans or sweater. Not all that different in terms of comfort from flannels!

Thank you so, so much for joining in on this party!

  28. I never get too hot. Our house is cold too, so I wear pajamas and socks. I don't have a down comforter but one filled with wool from my brother's sheep. I have a long nightgown with roses but I get always tangled. So I enjoy having it but not wearing it. :-) Have a nice day. Regula

  30. I wear pj's always, my fav kind!! The weather in my neck of the woods is like a cold spring and the evenings are very low temp., so pj's are perfect. Love the way the model looks, though, heheheeee...wish I looked that good in them! Big hugs and thank you for coming!

  33. Wearing pajamas while working? Now that's my kind of job! I don't wear flannel jammies, but I DO have flannel sheets. So comfy, aren't they?

  34. Hi Barbara! Oh, I love to stay in my nightclothes all day too. I used to get away with it until Mr. Precious retired! :) I'm a nightgown kinda gal. My hot flashes didn't allow for me to wear jammies.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  35. Great post. Yay for flannel. I'm intrigued that the sheets made you sneeze though! Too much "fuzz?" Hmmmm. We use them, and I've never noticed a problem. Have a beautiful day Barbara! ~Sally

  37. Good old-fashioned 2-pc. flannel jammies are a MUST in the winter for me! They're comfortable, warm, and I don't mind going to the door in them because they're actually covering up a whole lot more than some clothes I might otherwise wear! Those hot flashes prevent me from actually wearing them to bed at night (I switch to a summer short gown for sleeping!), but they're great for running around the house. I have actually seen people at Quik Trip in them, though...that's taking it TOO far!!! :-)

  38. I love Karen's pjs...although I am not sure I have any right now. I started wearing pjs (or T's and yoga pants) after a couple of times we were in a hotel and the fire alarm went off, forcing us into a parking lot. Now, I want to be prepared to run out the door if necessary! I am not one to lay around in my pajamas...I'm in the shower and dressed early, but sometimes on the weekends I might make it until 10:00! My family teases me because I like my pjs and sweats soft and almost always gray!

  39. Working at a store where you can wear your pjs all day sounds like a dream come true for many of us. Who would have thought? Yet them again I was shocked to hear there are restaurants that sell nothing but cereal. Cold milk and Raisin Bran just like we all can have at home. They too encourage people to come eat in their pjs.

I have to admit I can't actually see myself wearing them outside the house, though I have been known to wear mine all day, especially when it's cold.

  40. I also love to wear flannel and fleece PJ's in the winter, and living here in the foothill mountains I really need them to sleep comfortably. The last few sets I bought at Costco. I always buy them there when I see them on sale, as their prices can't be beat!

  41. Absolutely perfect job to wear PJ's all day! I love them and I think it's fine to wear them anytime...all day too. :) It can get really cold here but I so understand about where you live. I always miss them when it begins to get warm here.
