At Home With Marie

Marie and I became friends while both of us were working at Citi.  We also became "neighbors" when I moved to my current neighborhood here on Staten Island.  But soon after, Marie and her husband sold their home and moved to a beautiful 55+ community in Monroe Township, New Jersey.

I can spend an entire afternoon relaxing there and never have to go out any place!  But we always manage to get some retail therapy in.  I tell Marie I am in 'zen mode' whenever I visit.

Flowering cherry tree, St. Francis bird feeder

This photo directly above, I wanted to catch Marie's reflection in the glass pane while she was talking to Carolee.  Middle row, last pane on right.  I always tell Marie we need to do a tablescape.

Admiring a lovely painting by Russian artist Liudmila Kondakova.  There is a flowering cherry tree identical to the one in Marie's yard.

The Dalmatian is a signed edition made by Goebel

This orchid was the most beautiful shade of green.  The florist put food color into the dirt when it was planted!

I always hate to leave!

Hope you liked this 'spur-of-the-moment' tour, thanks to Marie for putting up with me.  This was not a planned photo shoot.

  10. Food color in the dirt??!?!?!! That's what makes that pretty color? I have NEVER heard of that! LOVE the idea!!!!!!!

Marie's home is so pretty! Those shining hardwood floors are fantastic!!! Makes me very embarrassed for the way ours are looking these days with all this construction worker traffic in and out of the house. Now that I will turn 55 in June, I wonder if Ramon will consider moving to a 55+ community? I would love it!

Very artsy photograph with Marie's image in the glass pane of the china cabinet! I love arty stuff like that!

Thank you for stopping by my place earlier today. Very good Spanish!!! :-) Have a wonderful week!

  14. Yes, that orchid blows me away - color in the dirt? Who'd a thunk?!! Isn't it wonderful to share time with great friends. It was so fun to give a tour of her house. Yes, definitely do a tablescape with her dishes. How fun would that be?

Yes, I have a tutorial link on the Ombre Rose Cake. I went back and made it more clear. It is easier than you think and if you hate the rose, scrape it off with a knife and start again.

  22. Barb,
Marie's home is stunning!! Is it a single home or a townhouse? Some of the new retirement communities here are all single level townhomes...

Thanks for sharing!! Thanks for always stopping by and leaving such nice comments!!

Barbara, just let me know when you want to change some things. I am trying to stay busy. I have another doctor's appointment today. I have a post ready to go about my health situation......

  26. I'm so glad you had your camera when you went to visit your friend Marie. Her home looks so pretty and well cared for. I think a tablescape would be fun in her dining room.
I had no idea that you could influence the color of a flower by putting food color in the soil. How interesting!

  27. Wonderful photos! Her home is very pretty and I think it's wonderful that you feel "zenned out" there. :) A friend of mine has always had a home that felt extremely peaceful to me. It is said that it's the person's influence in a space, not the actual space. Perhaps that's true, I don't know. :)

Glad you had a fun outing!

  28. Barbara, Marie's home is so lovely and tastefully decorated. I can see why you enjoy visiting Marie. Her home does seem so peaceful. Often it is so fun NOT to shop and just enjoy each other's company.
    Have a great week, Ginger

  29. Her home and yard is beautiful! I would consider a 55+ community at some point, although right now I am content just where I am.
