Trying to keep a poker face when seeing the townhouse for the first time with the real estate agent, I almost lost it when I saw an actual pantry. It is tall and rather narrow, and it takes some thought when rearranging groceries.
|The ugly truth|
|Aprons hanging behind the door|
I washed the shelves with Murphy's oil soap, after deciding I liked the natural wood color against the stark white. I am still debating using shelf liner or adding an edging.
Put my aprons in order, next up, autumn! Yayness! Here's a side view
Then I put things back.

I have a package of cloves in there, and the smell is faint but I can make it out. It reminds me of the pantry in my childhood home; when you opened the door, it always smelled like cloves and cinnamon.
While far from being perfect, considering everything is a completely different shape and size, I can pretty much see everything at a glance, I can do a quick check before heading out to the store, and while it is limited space, I manage to get it to work for me. Now I am all about fresh produce and farmers' markets, and fresh seafood. I won't be restocking canned goods til early winter (or an impending hurricane, oh, I really hope not!)
