When you care enough to send......

a pretty one of a kind card to people you love and know will appreciate it.  Or make up invites, place cards.  I also was very inspired by my friend Rosemary who blogs here.  This was what sent me right over the edge.  I am impetuous that way!

I have been wanting to make cards for a while now, and I took the plunge and purchased a Big Shot from Stampin' Up.

I purchased supplies from Leann who blogs at The Old Parsonage.  There are helpful tutorials online, and a friend helped me get started.

I made a couple of Halloween cards, Thanksgiving and am working on two birthday cards.

A fuzzy close-up of my Halloween card.

Thanksgiving

I find it so relaxing and a stress reducer, although at times I was a little nervous, especially when cutting the card stock.  I have a plan to make some custom Christmas cards.

Well, of course I had to get this die cut!!  A few of these got mailed out today, and I forgot to 'sign' the back of them as a "Barbara Original"!  Ha!

Eventually I will be experimenting with ribbons, lace, bits of fabric.  Since each card I make will be 'custom', I will keep the person I am making it for in mind, and will proceed accordingly.

I will be joining Kathe for You're Gonna Love It, Kathy for Make It Pretty, Creative MondaysBrenda for Tweak It Tuesdays, Amaze Me Mondays, Wanda Ann for Trivia Tuesday at Memories By the Mile, Home{work} Wednesday with Barb, Suzy & the girlsKim for Wow Us Wednesdays, All Things Pretty ThursdayJody for Sweet & Simple Fridays, Sherry for Home Sweet Home, Elaine for From The Farm Blog HopThe Tablescaper for Seasonal Sundays, Jan for Share Your Cup.  Thanks ladies!!

  2. Wow, very nice! I can see where this could be fun. Sounds like you're going to enjoy this a lot.
I know another blogger that does great cards called Donna's Designs. I don't think I have the patience to do these but my sister made all the cards for a shower for my son and his wife when they were getting married. Enjoy!

  11. Such a fun craft idea! Your cards are so pretty. I love the idea of making .. or sending something. It's sad that letter writing has been replaced a bit by email and texting.

  12. These are wonderful, Barbara! I love the one with the bird and butterfly. I used to make cards but I was just terrible at it. I still have all my stamps and tons of card stock. My sisters do it all the time and are really good. I even went to one of those Stampin Up parties that they threw. I guess I can't give advice because I bailed, but I know from my sisters, be daring and keep practicing, your cards will get better and better.

    XO,
    Jane

  22. Hiya Barbara,

I love your cards! In today's rushed and crazy world there is nothing better than receiving a thoughtful, homemade gift. I used to buy blank card stock from Michael's and put one of my scenic photographs on it and I think I will start doing that again - thanks for the reminder.

Hope you are feeling well, sweet lady. I seem to follow in your path on pinterest a lot so that must mean we have similar tastes! lol.
    Have a great day.

  26. Love the new look on your blog. Isn't Linda the greatest! I just bought a kit to make cards from HSN. Made my first card this weekend and it was so fun and easy.
The gal who put the kit together is Anne Griffin. I think she is pretty famous in the card/crafting world and the kit has lots of bits and pieces to make 48 cards. I had never heard of her but saw the kit on tv and thought, I can do this.
I really should have taken pics of the process and blogged about it. Goofy me.

  35. I have often thought about how fun it would be to make my own cards. The note card party makes me think it even more regularly. I love what you've done and can see how it would be a perfect stress reliever.

(And in case you don't see it, I loved reading about your friends and their Green Acres adventure. Now THAT would be awesome, especially if I got to run around in a negligee (sp?) and say "Oleevah...")
